Understanding Your Internet Server Speed Better

The 1st question you should be asking is how familiar are you with your server speed. Nowadays , there are so many promotions or advertising campaigns from ISPs or web hosting company that have essentially the same pitch fastest, most trusty server speed.

So how can you really get to grips with this? Or even better how sure are you that your Internet service provider is giving you a connection same as what they promised you at the beginning?

Well, if you’re not quite sure about the server speed, then there’s speed test available for you out there. This is a sort of test that checks your speed by receiving and sending packets of information to and from web servers all around the globe.

There are two options to choose between for this test. One is thru software that’s designed for that particular purpose ( checking the server speed ). And another is through web sites whereby they test your connection while you are on the web.

So how can you correctly test your data transfer speeds? First, access the test application. Again, you may use software for this reason on your computer and another is through sites. There are some websites that asks for your country and which country you would like the test to be carried out, unlike applications which that have only one default server to check.

The very next step is to see whether the latency, or ping, which is also the time. Down to milliseconds it may count, you know! Ping speeds can range drastically which really depends on your Internet connection in the country. That’s the reason why good latency speeds of roughly 20 to forty five milliseconds are good especially from the developed countries. In developing countries, latency could be over half a second.

After the latency test, download speed test comes in. Here, the server you are connecting to will broadcast the packets of data to your PC which then decides your speed. Another step is also the upload test. Here, information packets are sent from your Computer to the server. The velocity when uploads are received will determine your uploading capacity.
